A single-engine plane carrying three people crashed into a Western North Carolina field on Thursday, Sept. 18.

Aircraft tracking website FlightAware showed that a Cirrus SR22T plane had stopped in a field in Franklin, next to an airport, at 2:56 p.m. The plane is believed to have crashed. The Macon County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook reassuring the community that students and staff at Iotla School, which neighbors the site of the crash, were safe.
