Family members have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Clark County on behalf of a Vancouver mother and daughter who were murdered by the mother’s former boyfriend while he was out on bail.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Clark County Superior Court alleges the county’s probation and pre-trial services department failed to follow its policies and procedures to ensure Kirkland Warren complied with the conditions of his release.
A spokeswoman for the county declined to comment because the litigation is pending.
The suit states that it seeks an amount of damages to be decided by the court. But tort claims filed with county risk management in the spring state the family is seeking $35 million each for the estates of Meshay Melendez and Layla Stewart.
