PHOENIX – A driver got stuck in a flash flood on a far north Phoenix roadway Friday morning as thunderstorms moved through the area, authorities said.

Technical rescue teams were dispatched to North Valley Parkway near Dixileta Drive around 5 a.m., according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

By the time they arrived, Phoenix Police Department officers already had helped the vehicle’s lone occupant to safety.

The conditions were caused by storms that developed Thursday evening and rolled through central and north Phoenix overnight into the Cave Creek/Carefree area, triggering a flash flood warning that was set to expire at 7:15 a.m.
