SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Downtown and city spaces tend to become concrete jungles with their tall buildings and plethora of parking spaces, but on Friday, that will change in downtown Springfield.

Fittingly, the holiday on September 19 is called Park(ing) Day, and it’s a global movement to reimagine cities and how they can become more green and pedestrian-friendly. Leaders from Better Block SGF will turn some downtown parking spaces into green space with plenty to do and eat.

While this will only last for one day, it’s designed to make people think about how much of the landscape all over the country is dedicated to automobiles and how reimagining the distance between things can change the perspective of entire communities.
