The House narrowly passed a short-term spending bill Friday to keep the government funded through Nov. 21, staving off a shutdown set to begin Oct. 1. The 217-212 vote came after House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana secured just enough Republican support for the measure, aided by a last-minute push from President Donald Trump .

Republicans Victoria Spartz of Indiana and Thomas Massie of Kentucky voted no. Democrat Jared Golden of Maine voted yes.

Democratic leaders quickly rejected the bill, insisting Republicans must negotiate on health care and other priorities, setting up a clash in the Senate . With both parties dug in, the likelihood of a shutdown remains high as the deadline approaches.
