Ten people have been taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a block of flats in Sherford during the early hours of this morning (Friday, September 19). Emergency services were called to the scene along Aquila Drive after a fire broke out.
A number of people were trapped in their homes as a fire took hold in the stairwell of a four-storey block of flats. A total of six fire crews were sent to the scene, as well as paramedics and police.
The fire service confirmed that 28 people were rescued from their homes and treated for smoke inhalation where needed. South West Ambulance Service has said that eight people were taken to Derriford Hospital and another two to Torbay Hospital.
