A Perth toddler has become the sixth person to die from influenza this year amid a horrific flu season gripping WA.

Two-year-old Aabi was a healthy, fun-loving child who became critically ill just days after returning home from a family holiday.

Immunisation Foundation of Australia, a non-profit dedicated to advocacy for vaccine-preventable diseases, shared a statement on behalf of Aabi’s family, recounting the devastating moments leading up to the little girl’s final moments.

What started as a mild headache a few days after going to day care quickly became life-threatening when Aabi’s temperature spiked dramatically.
