A killer who punched an Iraq War veteran three times in a drink and drug-fuelled street attack has been locked up for life.

Gregory Twigg landed 'powerful and cowardly' punches on medically-retired British Army veteran Lee Woodward.

The 32-year-old left the former soldier severely brain damaged and he died in hospital 10 months later.

Twigg was already serving an eight-year and three-month jail term after admitting grievous bodily harm with intent in September 2022.

He was convicted by jurors of murder following a second trial, which ended in July this year.

Today (Friday, September 19), Twigg jailed for life, with a minimum term of 11 years.
