A Boston police sergeant that authorities say raped a teenager he met online was indicted on eight counts, including four counts of rape of a child aggravated by age difference.

Paul Downey was previously charged in Dorchester BMC and ordered held on $250,000 bail, an amount a defense attorney said was far higher than his family could afford.

The other charges include two counts of engaging in sexual conduct with a child under 18 for a fee and two counts of enticement of a child under 16 to engage in commercial sexual activity.

In July , prosecutors laid out the evidence supporting the accusations against Downey. Downey stared straight ahead during the hearing. He wore a polo shirt and a blue surgical mask that covered half his face.
