A grand jury has indicted a former Boston police sergeant on charges he raped a 14-year-old boy he met on a dating app , prosecutors said Friday.
Paul Downey, a 57-year-old from West Roxbury, was previously charged in Boston Municipal Court, and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

The grand jury's indictment elevates the case to Suffolk Superior Court, where he's due next Friday to face the new counts of aggravated rape of a minor, sexual conduct with a child under 18 and electronic enticement of a child for sexual activity. Grand juries review prosecutors' allegations and decide whether or not the evidence is sufficient to bring charges.
