MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. (KMOT) - Support for Minot Air Force Base is growing as military leaders approved a second unit from the North Dakota Air National Guard to help with the base’s bomber missions.

The new detachment with the 5th Bomb Wing and the Air Guard’s 119th Wing will help the operations of the B-52s.

According to Governor Kelly Armstrong’s office, the unit will add 40 personnel by next October.

The Air Guard’s 219th Security Forces Squadron already works together with Minot Air Force Base for the missile field.

National Guard Adjutant General Mitch Johnson said the detachment allows the Guard to add another strategic deterrent mission.
