GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- A 46-year-old Kalamazoo man caught with a package containing 13 pounds of methamphetamine has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Federal prosecutors say Keith Smith showed a pattern of drug-dealing over years.

In 2022, police used a confidential informant to buy a pound of meth from Smith. Subsequently, police searched his residence and found a woman dead from drug poisoning.

They also found fentanyl, cocaine and a stolen pistol in his car.

Smith was indicted at the time, but released on bond.

Then on Jan. 13, 2025, police caught him again with drugs, this time a package containing 13 pounds of meth.

“A thirty-year sentence is a long time, but Keith Smith worked hard to earn it,” said U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Tim VerHey.
