Messiah University confirmed one person was killed Friday morning in a train crash near the campus’ South Gate.

Police said the victim was a pedestrian. They did not provide additional details about the incident.

The Cumberland County 9-1-1 center listed the crash near Grantham Road and University Avenue that took place at 10:48 a.m. Two trucks from the coroner’s office were seen leaving Milk Avenue near the scene.

University Avenue was closed at the railroad crossing where yellow tape was drawn from a train car to behind the facility services building for Messiah at the intersection. The train was stopped as a uniformed police officer and rail officials investigated.

“Local authorities are actively investigating the incident and are in the process of identifying the person involved,”
