The Lake County Sheriff's office took to social media to address viral posts circulating claiming the office "just signed agreements with ICE."

The office shared the viral post to its Facebook page saying it was "aware of inaccurate information circulating on social media."

The posts claimed the sheriff's office had reached an agreement with ICE to allow deputies to turn in individuals who have a detainer, or to hold them in jail for ICE to pick up.

"To be clear - Illinois law prohibits local law enforcement from holding individuals on ICE detainers or coordinating with ICE on immigration enforcement," the sheriff's office said in its statement.
