ALBANY AND NATIONWIDE — THE SENSITIVE PERSONAL DATA OF SNAP RECIPIENTS WILL REMAIN PROTECTED after NY Attorney General Letitia James won a key victory in preventing the federal government from accessing it for immigration enforcement purposes.

The U.S. District Court for Northern California on Thursday, Sept. 18 issued a preliminary injunction that blocks the Trump administration, and in particular, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program program, from accessing data of New Yorkers receiving SNAP benefits.

The USDA has threatened to cut funding to those states refusing to comply.
