RIDGELAND, SC. (WTOC) - A barber told us what happened when he shot a man who he said came into his shop and tried to rob him while wielding a machete.

WTOC spoke with the barber Friday to learn more.

Police said he appears to have acted out of self-defense in the shooting.

The barber at Jay’s Barber Shop and Styling in Ridgeland, told WTOC this kind of situation has never happened at their shop in his six years of working there.

He said normally people are in there getting their haircut and debating sports.
