TOLEDO, Iowa (KCRG) - A Tama County woman was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of first-degree murder on Friday.

In July, a jury found Karina Cooper guilty of murdering her husband, Ryan Cooper.

In June 2021, Ryan was found dead at his home in Traer. He died from two gunshot wounds to the face.

Three years later, in February 2024, Karina Cooper was arrested in connection to the incident.

At today’s sentencing - Cooper chose not to address the judge.

But two of her sister-in-laws gave victim impact statements.

One was from Heather Cooper - she and her husband are now raising Karina and Ryan’s three children. She was the first to get to the house after Ryan Cooper was killed.
