CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - More than 30 inmates are being held at the Linn County jail for ICE officials. That’s according to the county sheriff.

“So the housing agreement with the marshal service says we’ll provide them up to 70 beds and then whatever the marshal doesn’t use then ICE is able to pick up out of it,” said Sheriff Brian Gardner.

The county gets $140 per inmate, per day. Sheriff Gardner says the arrangement isn’t new, it’s an agreement they’ve had for decades with the government and the type of inmate they see changes often.

“As of this morning, we had 35 ICE inmates in custody and that number fluctuates daily. Some come in, some come out, some stay with us, but it’s been fairly stagnant for the last month or two,” said Sheriff Gardner.
