MADISON (WKOW) -- Girls on the Run of South Central Wisconsin is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, marking two decades of empowering youth across the region.
Christine Benedict, the organization's executive director, joined 27 News at 5 on Friday to talk about the milestone.
Since its founding, Girls on the Run has reached nearly 25,000 participants with the help of about 7,000 volunteers. The program serves more than 150 school sites in 36 districts across 10 counties, combining physical activity with an evidence-based curriculum to foster confidence, resilience and leadership.
Participants end each season with a celebratory 5K run or walk, symbolizing the skills they've gained.
