DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - An Iowa Republican State Representative has resigned from the legislature to join the Trump Administration.
Rep. Mike Sexton (R-Rockwell City) submitted a letter of resignation from the State House Friday. Sexton says he has accepted a position appointed by President Trump but did not specify that position.
Sexton was first elected to the Iowa House in 2014, winning reelection in 2024 with 83% of the vote. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds will set a special election to fill the seat in the heavily Republican district.
Rep. Sexton endorsed Trump ahead of the 2024 election, speaking at one of his rallies in Fort Dodge and gaining some brief social media notariety for his Yoda impersonation.
