ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A double murder investigation is underway, and a person of interest is in custody, according to the Rowan County coroner.

The Rowan County Coroner’s Office says the Morehead Police Department Dispatch got a 911 call at around 11 a.m. Friday, from a person who performed a welfare check on a coworker who did not report to work that morning.

First responders arrived at the scene on Spring Street off Flemingsburg Road, the north end of Rowan County, and discovered the bodies of 37-year-old Kayla Blake and her daughter, 13-year-old Kennedi McWhorter.

The coroner’s office says a person of interest has been arrested in western Kentucky, and there is no threat to the public.

The coroner’s office says Kentucky State Police Eastern Crime Lab is on scene.
