The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) has confirmed the rules for pensioners who live in a care home claiming the winter fuel payment this winter. Eligible people born before September 22, 1959 will receive up to £300 by the Government to help keep their homes warm.

A total of nine million pensioners in England and Wales are set to receive the Winter Fuel Payment from the DWP this winter after a Government U-turn was announced on June 11 .

The change means eligible pensioners - who have an income of or below £35,000 - will get either £200 or £300 this winter.

Most pensioner are eligible for the payments and will receive them automatically. However, there is a specific eligibility criteria for pensioners who live in a care home.
