PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Salvation Army is ready to construct a new Men's Shelter that will nearly double its capacity, after the ceremonial groundbreaking on Friday.
The groundbreaking for the new shelter included donors to the project, city and Salvation Army leadership.
"We have been blessed by the support of our community and the generosity of special donors who are joining us on this journey to addresses the increased need for shelter and services for the unhoused men in our town," Salvation Army Major Heath Sells said.
The 19,000-square-foot building will stand at the corner of Bryan and SW Jefferson. In addition to doubling the space, it will be a two-story building that will improve security and dignity for people who stay there, with separate places for sleeping, meals and da
