BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - For this year’s Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, a nurse and her manager at Ochsner in Baton Rouge are telling their story of discovery and the importance of speaking up about your health.
Kyra Hayes is a nurse on the mother and baby units at Ochsner.
“Kyra is a pleasure to work with, and any patient that she takes care of is lucky to have her,” Alise Sollie, women’s services hospital manager, said.
For the four years Hayes has been a nurse here, Sollie says she never paid much mind to little coughs Hayes would do until one day, she connected the dots.
“Just like the clearing of your throat and the kind of, not repetitively, but frequently ‘ahem.’ And after the diagnosis, it was like, okay, that was probably the beginning symptoms of it,” Sollie said.
