A strike by about 10,000 support workers at Ontario colleges has entered its second week with no end in sight.
OPSEU, the union representing the workers, staged a Provincial Day of Action on Friday, inviting members of other unions, parents, students and faculty to join striking workers on the picket line at 24 college campuses, including Fanshawe College in London.
“Unfortunately, unless something changes, we’re preparing to continue this action into next week,” said Adam Rayfield, president of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 109 that represents 700 full-time employees and another 500 part-timers at Fanshawe. “Bargaining through press releases isn’t bargaining. We need to see real counter-proposals at the table.”
The union says the strike is about job security, protecting student supports and the fu
