INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers went beyond the call of duty to lift the spirits of a 4-year-old girl who underwent an unimaginable tragedy.

It's a heartwarming update to a story we've been talking about for a month.

The story starts out tough. Luna was in the hospital for close to a month after police found her unconscious and not breathing after her father and his girlfriend allegedly beat her.

Luna needed surgery to remove part of her skull.

At one point, police called her condition "near death." Now, after weeks in the hospital, Luna is home and making quite the recovery.

This week, IMPD officers got to meet Luna and bring her a gift.
