LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A Los Angeles city councilmember who used Shakira ending her world tour in Fresno as an example of how her city needs to do better has instead provoked the Central Valley's supporters to push back against her comments.

On Instagram, District 14 Councilmember Ysabel Jurado posted a video calling for Los Angeles to "invest in ourselves" and highlighted the city "losing out to Fresno" when Shakira played at Valley Children's Stadium in August.

"Shakira ended her world tour in Fresno, okay," said Councilmember Jurado, a comment which prompted laughter from the crowd behind her.

Councilmember Jurado also highlighted how Cardi B is releasing her new album in Long Beach, adding that Los Angeles "cannot rely on our name alone." The speech called for more invest
