DANVERS — The spotlight shone brightly on sensational sophomore Chris Vargas on Friday night at Cronin Memorial Stadium.

With a packed house watching, including Boston College head coach and St. John’s Prep alum Bill O’Brien, Vargas was clinical in slicing up Central Catholic. The five-star recruit completed 18-of-24 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles steamrolled Central Catholic, 47-21.

“We’ve got a great player and we were able to put the spotlight on him,” St. John’s coach Brian St. Pierre said about Vargas. “He was just sublime.”

It wasn’t just about Vargas for St. John’s (3-0). Fellow sophomore Riley Selvais caught eight balls for 133 yards and two scores, while senior Ethan Stefanovich added two more touchdown catches.
