Local home builders will have more options now that the county's zoning ordinance has been amended.
The Allen County commissioners voted Friday to allow zero lot line developments and infill housing. Zero lot line developments refer to attached homes, such as townhomes. Infill housing is often encouraged to fill vacant lots.
Sherese Fortriede, senior planner for Fort Wayne’s Planning and Policy Department, said these types of housing were possible before, but developers would have to work through specific processes to receive zoning approval. These changes make securing approval easier and encourage different types of housing.
And that’s a good thing because the county continues to grow, and diverse housing types can make it easier for people with various incomes to buy a home, she said
