A 16-year-old student was arrested at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside Thursday after allegedly posting that he was going to “shoot the school up” on a social media account.

Police allegedly recovered a loaded 9 mm semiautomatic handgun from the student’s backpack. His name is being withheld because he is a juvenile.

Mayor Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the matter remains under investigation at a press conference Thursday afternoon.

“While this is a horrific sign of the times, we are heartbroken that this threat ever existed in one of our high schools,” Adams said. “We are also grateful because this is the perfect example of the system working properly.
