WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — "There's a lot of good memories," says Bryon Race of Class of '64.
That's how many G.A.R. memorial alumni felt as they walked the same hallways they walked as teenagers.
"This school was home, and the teachers that worked here in the period of time I was, they were wonderful people, they cared, and it's one of the reasons I became a teacher," says Race.
For the 100-year anniversary of the G.A.R. memorial, all alumni were invited to celebrate. Some hadn't been back in decades.
One alumnus says, "This is the first time I've been back since 1974." Another says, "This is the first time I've been back since 1964."
But despite the decades, some things never change.
"Probably a main hangout would have been right here with the balcony," says Race.
