A woman who reported to Police she had been assaulted by Iain Packer has told how the force failed to ever identify him as her attacker. ‌

The woman, who was 21 at the time of the attack in 2006, told officers that she had been attacked by a man who had put his hands around her neck and tried to kill her. ‌

Despite giving a clear description of Packer including of his height, tattoos and of his family member’s address, Packer , who was known to police, was never questioned. ‌

Instead years later, the woman recognised Packer as the man who had attacked her when he went on trial for the killing of Emma Caldwell.
