Canada's Mike Weir and Australia's Cameron Percy each carded 6-under-par scores of 66 on the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links to share the lead after one round of the Pure Insurance Championship on Friday in Monterrey, Calif.

Both the Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill courses are being used for the tournament, which has a purse of $2.4 million.

Six players -- including Fiji's Vijay Singh and New Zealand's Steven Alker, who is third in the Charles Schwab Cup standings -- posted 5-under 67, while eight more players registered rounds of 68.

Weir started on the back nine at Pebble Beach and birdied four of the first eight holes. He made the turn in 32 and got to 7 under with a birdie at the par-3 seventh. But he gave that shot back one hole later and settled for a 66.
