PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Iowa football 's second road game of the season felt a lot like its first.

An early avalanche was fought off. The Hawkeyes resiliently fought back. And both times, they almost inexplicably entered the fourth quarter finding themselves in a dead heat.

That was the case at Iowa State on Sept. 6, a game the Hawkeyes lost in excruciating fashion by three points.

And against Rutgers 13 days later, they somehow, some way, found a way.

Mark Gronowski had his best day as a Hawkeye, rushing for three scores, including the go-ahead and clinching touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Iowa spoiled an SHI Stadium-record crowd of 55,942 with a 38-28 win to open Big Ten Conference play.
