WOODBURY HEIGHTS — Jermaine Stewart is the hammer that allows Sterling High School to keep pounding away.
The senior's two rushing scores bookended a physical 35-14 victory over rival Gateway Friday night, as Sterling improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2013.
"All week," Stewart said, "we were saying this is the biggest game of the season, and that we needed to come out strong and punch these Gators in the mouth. And that's what we did."
The power gear in Sterling's balanced attack, Stewart slammed ahead 22 times for 160 yards, helping the Silver Knights polish their unbeaten WJFL-Royal record to a perfect 3-0. The performance was especially pleasing for Stewart, since he missed five games last season due to a broken collarbone, not getting to play on offense at all.
