It was champion vs. champion on Friday night, as Oregon Class 6A open champion West Linn travelled north to face off against Washington Class 4A state champion Sumner for a Pacific Northwest battle for bragging rights.
Trailing early, the Lions battled back and held on late for a 31-24 victory against the Spartans, as Sloan Baker threw for a pair of touchdowns and Josiah Molden caught a touchdown and grabbed a crucial interception to shift the momentum before halftime.
Sumner looked like it was ready to roll out of the gates. The Spartans just ran the ball over and over, as the drive ended with a 4-yard touchdown rush by Lance McGee.
