PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks fell further back in their longshot bid for the postseason as they fell to the Phillies, 8-2 , on Friday night in the first of a three-game set at Chase Field.

The loss combined with the Mets’ win over the Nationals dropped Arizona to three games behind New York for the third and final NL Wild Card spot with eight games remaining. The Reds, by virtue of their win over the Cubs, also moved a game ahead of the Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks jumped out to a first-inning lead when Ketel Marte hit a one-out homer, and Arizona added a run later in the frame when Blaze Alexander beat out a double-play ball, which allowed Corbin Carroll to score from third.
