ROCHESTER HILLS – Mere feet separated Stoney Creek from defeat and knocking off the No. 1 team in Division 4 and arguably one of the most talented teams in the state regardless of class on Friday.

In a battle of 3-0 teams, the Cougars scored a touchdown with six seconds left, but a 2-point conversion failed and allowed Harper Woods to leave with a 28-27 win.

Stopped on its first few tries from inside the 5-yard line in the final minute, Stoney junior quarterback Brandon Gergics went right behind his interior offensive linemen and went upright into the end zone for a touchdown that left the Cougars trailing by one with six seconds remaining.
