HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Paul Michael Hiploto was the victim of an assault by a stranger that caused a traumatic brain injury, according to his family.
He’s now fighting for his life, not from the attack, but from what doctors found when he was being treated - a rare and aggressive cancer.
Loved ones describe Hipolito, 41, as shy, quiet and kind. But his sister said Aug. 2, his the soft-spoken Makiki resident was approached by a stranger and punched in the face.
The attack made him fall backward, and his head hit the ground.
“Going there and seeing him on the ICU bed was just devastating,” his sister, Gloria, said.
She added that the attack left her younger brother with several brain bleeds, a broken nose and two black eyes.
A suspect was arrested but so far has not been charged.
