Seventeen-year-olds in Frederick County didn’t fare well in August 1893. Young adults who should have been looking at a happy life stretching before them instead died. Some of the deaths were unusual, but they all shared the same age.

Nettie Moberly, the daughter of former Frederick City Mayor Lewis Moberly, was said to be an attractive young woman with many suitors and admirers.
