SAULT STE. MARIE — Members of the Sault community came together to break a sweat and help raise funds for those in need at the 18th annual Run for Recovery on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
The Great Lakes Recovery Center hosted the annual 5K Fun Run/Walk at Lake Superior State University's Norris Center. They raised over $20,000 this year for recovery efforts across the U.P. The money will specifically go into the compassionate care fund, which goes towards helping people who cannot raise the money to afford treatment by themselves.
"It's vital for folks to know that recovery housing oftentimes isn't well funded, so we need to nurture funding for recovery housing stays," said Great Lakes Recovery Center CEO Greg Toutant. "It's a vital effort for people to get back on their feet again."
