RUPERT — They do it for the love of motor sports. And after all, who doesn’t enjoy playing in the mud?

EJ McDougall, president of the Southern Idaho Mud Racing Association, said that racers participate in an electric atmosphere.

“It’s definitely high-octane,” McDougall said.

It’s a chance to rev engines, kick up some mud or dirt and get the adrenaline pumping.

Different racing classes zoom down a 180-foot track, from 5-year-old kids racing their Barbie Jeeps and Powerwheels vehicles, all the way to nitrous-injected trucks boasting more than 1,000 horsepower.

“We have people pulling their front tires off the ground for the first 40 feet,” McDougall said.

After a season of action, the finale for SIMRA’s point series is set for Sept. 26 and 27 at the Minidoka County Fairgrounds in Ruper
