Michigan lawmakers are looking to join a growing number of states working to tighten or restrict access to online pornography — although the legislation doesn't currently appear to be a priority in either the state House or Senate.

More than 20 states, some in the last year , have taken steps to ensure age verification to access websites containing pornography and explicit content, in turn sparking a debate about digital privacy and First Amendment rights.

Bills introduced earlier this year in both the Michigan Senate and House would require websites displaying mature content to verify the age of any online visitor in Michigan, ensuring they were at least 18 years old.
