Dawn Farrell has the support of business leaders and a resumé replete with building big things, but already, just weeks into her job as CEO of Canada’s Major Projects Office, there are questions about how she will meet those sky-high expectations and get “nation-building” projects built.
Farrell was announced last month as CEO of the Major Projects Office (MPO) to shepherd “nation-building” projects through Canada’s regulatory system and get shovels in the ground on ports, mines, natural gas projects, possibly even pipelines — all part of the government’s effort to boost the country’s economy. The office is also supposed to help the multibillion-dollar projects get financed, possibly with government funds.
