Families can turn local wildlife into a hands-on learning experience at the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in Golden Pond.
Land Between the Lakes is a national forest situated between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley in both Trigg and Lyon counties, just over a two and a half hour drive from downtown Louisville.
The area has a long history of shifting ownership, public affairs official Scott Raymond told The Courier Journal. Currently, the land is managed by the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
Land Between the Lakes serves "as a premier destination for both recreation and environmental education. Its location was chosen based on proximity to the Woodlands Trace highway," Raymond said.
