PORT JERVIS – The City of Port Jervis held a ceremony on Friday remembering and reaffirming America’s promise to never forget the courage and sacrifices of the nation’s prisoners of war (POWs) and those still missing in action (MIAs).
Approximately two dozen individuals gathered at the city’s POW/MIA Park on Kingston Avenue for prayer, The Pledge of Allegiance, and remarks of gratitude and remembrance. Those in attendance included veteran post members and auxiliary, members of the Nam Knights of Orange County, and residents of the area.
The ceremony was brief, heartfelt, stirring, and strong in its affirmation and point. Led by VFW Post #161 Commander Colin Tunney, himself an Iraq and Afghanistan combat veteran, said Americans should “always remember” MIAs and POWs.
