To the Editor:
I read with interest Marnie Eisenstadt’s article about the recent appointment of Pamela Odom as the next Syracuse City School District superintendent ( “She graduated from Nottingham 3 decades ago. Now she’s about to run Syracuse’s schools,” Aug. 29, 2025). By all accounts, Odom has a tremendous resume and is a source of city pride as a Nottingham High School alumna.
However, I was concerned by one passage in particular:
Odom said she has been in training to take over the head spot since she was appointed to the deputy superintendent role two years ago.
“I’ve known since then that if things went well ... that I would be able to become the superintendent,” Odom said.
... The district did not conduct a search for the position ...
