Oklahoma legislators filed several bills and resolutions last week honoring slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, including one that would require all state colleges and universities to create plazas in his name.

None of the measures filed so far complies exactly with the Oklahoma Republican Party State Committee's resolution calling for a state holiday on Sept. 10, the day of Kirk's death.

Senate Bill 1188, by Sen. Shane Jett, R-Shawnee, would establish Kirk's birthday, Oct. 14, as Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day and a state holiday, with "an annual proclamation calling upon the people of Oklahoma to observe Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day with appropriate ceremonies, programs, and activities that recognize his role as a beacon of hope and heroism for
