David Taggart, who is working toward his Boy Scout Eagle rank, was commended at the Sept. 8 meeting of the Perry County commissioners for spending more than 200 hours locating and marking the graves of veterans in Bloomfield Cemetery.
County Veterans Affairs Director Jim Scott praised Taggart for taking on what he described as an arduous project. “It is very difficult to find someone to do that,” Scott said, noting the fading gravestones, lack of cemetery records and the sheer size of Bloomfield Cemetery. “But there’s nothing any more beautiful when it comes to Memorial Day recognition than to see those flags.”
