Thunder Bay residents who received new garbage bins for automated pickup are being reminded to start using them on Monday.
Approximately 9,000 households received the new bins earlier this summer as part of the City of Thunder Bay's phased transition to automated garbage pickup.
"Moving to an automated cart-based collection system for garbage is a big improvement to waste collection services in Thunder Bay," said Jason Sherband, manager of solid waste and recycling services with the City of Thunder Bay. "The new system will improve worker health and safety, reduce litter, and make it easier to get waste to the curb for residents."
Garbage will be collected from the bins by new trucks with an automatic arm, much like recycling is now collected by GFL.
